LOVE IN ACTION TEAMS

Audio-Video Team
Is a technical ministry responsible for operating the audio and video systems for the recording of services, workshops, special events and concerts. The team is also responsible for the production of CDs of the Sunday service and prepares CDs for immediate sale after each Sunday service. Fulfills Order Requests for all media types. Team members also edit the audio and video for broadcasts on the internet and television. Provide other multimedia support as needed.  It is helpful, but not a requirement, if potential members have some technical experience in the areas of audio reinforcement and video production.

Bookstore Assistant Team
Provides access to Unity materials and other spiritual resources to bless and enhance the spiritual journey of all who enter. Lovingly cares for the Unity bookstore and our customers. Operates the bookstore register after Sunday Services and during other special services as needed.

Choir / Music Ministry

Shares the gift and joy of music with the congregation. Performs for special church services and events. Presents a Spring and Christmas concert each year. The choir rehearses every Thursday evening (for 2 hours) and performs for the congregation on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Those interested in serving must contact the Music Director to set-up an audition.

Event Support Team
Provides logistical support for classes, workshops, concerts, special events, etc. Assists the workshop/class leaders, collects and counts the offering for events, and sells books and materials.

General Volunteer Team (Weekdays)

Assist church staff with assembling guest packets for visitors, Sunday bulletins and other duties as needed.  Stuffs and sort envelopes for special mailings.

Hospitality Team
Ministers to all who attend by lovingly preparing and serving refreshments after each Sunday service.  Commitment is for only one (1) Sunday per month.  Also an opportunity to greet fellow congregants and help bring the Unity welcome.

Ministerial Support Team

Assist the Senior Minister and guest speakers before, during and after Sunday worship service. This includes, but is not limited to preparing the sanctuary for service, ensuring that bulletins are in the sanctuary and on the platform, and assisting guest speakers (i.e., transportation, light meal, etc.).

Movie Night Committee

Coordinates the showing of spiritually based films; prepares and sells popcorn; beverages; and other snacks.

Office Assistants Team
Provides limited administrative assistance and overall office coverage on Sundays.

Security & Parking  Team
Assists with the opening/closing of the church facilities and space security.  Assists and directs congregants with the parking of their vehicles in the available parking lot spaces adjacent to the church.

Usher & Greeter Team
Holds the vision for the warm, welcoming, and inviting atmosphere that is felt in the sanctuary and reflected in the service they provide.  Cheerfully greets congregants, handing them a bulletin and assisting or directing them to a seat. Prepares the sanctuary for regular Sunday services. Takes and records the service attendance at each service.

Youth Education Team
Facilitates once a month in a Sunday classroom setting, assisting the Youth Education staff and Unity's young people in their spiritual unfoldment.

Youth Of Unity Sponsor (Y.O.U.)

Facilitates in a Sunday classroom setting, leading and guiding Unity's teenagers (Grades 9-12) in their spiritual unfoldment through discussion, activities and spiritual lessons that gives them an understanding of Spiritual Truths.

Daily Word Reader

Serves the congregation by setting the atmosphere for worship through a loving and reverent reading of the Daily Word reading and scriptures - The Daily Word is read in English and Spanish.

Worship Leader

Serves on Sunday morning and other special services. Duties include: Leading the congregational prayers; sharing information about church events; introducing Sunday service activity; introducing guest speakers; welcoming visitors; and raising the energy level of the congregation in preparation for receiving the message.

Platform Assistant

Serves on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  Duties include: (Sundays) Heightening the interest and participation of congregants about a variety of classes, programs and events offered by our church; (Wednesdays) Supports the Senior Minister / Guest Speaker / Meditation Leader / Facilitator through the distribution of handouts, bulletins and/or the passing around a microphone for those with questions/comments; collection and counting of donations in the offering box.

Adopt-A-Family Committee

Assist with identifying, contacting and coordinating with local families during the holiday season to provide gifts of food and financial support.

Provides support to the Senior Minister in strategizing, executing, and stewarding social media initiatives for the church.  Team members actively participate in enhancing the visibility of the church through blogs, Twitter, Facebook and other social networks.

LOVE IN ACTION MINISTRIES

Lay Leader Ministry

Support and work with the Senior Minister to foster the spiritual growth and development of congregants through leadership, instruction, prayer, dialogue and continuous education for all. Lay Leaders serve to help build the consciousness of Unity through teaching and personal demonstration of Truth. Those interested in serving as a Lay Leader must apply to be considered for the Lay Leadership Program. Once accepted, candidates must complete an intensive four-month training program to prepare for service.

Oneness Blessing Givers

Individuals provide Oneness Blessings to others. Those individuals interested in serving on this team must be trained in a very sacred, divinely led process which culminates in the transmission of a very special Deeksha called the Mukthi Deeksha. Once a participant goes through the Oneness Awakening Course, they are initiated as a Oneness Deeksha Giver, and will be shown how to give Deeksha to others.

Meditation Ministry

Assists people in moving to a state of sustained clarity and Oneness. Members work with the minister to organize and lead all meditation opportunities offered by Unity of Washington, DC. Sessions on leading guided meditations are offered for new members of the ministry.

Pastoral Care Ministry

The Pastoral Support offers special attention to those who are in need of a loving touch. It includes writing cards and letters, calls or visits to congregants who may be ill (in the hospital or at home); and reaching out to those who may be struggling with loss or change.

Prayer Support Ministry
Prays with love and faith for everyone who turns in a prayer request.  Responds to congregants' Prayer requests by writing or calling.  Prays with congregants following each Sunday worship service.

 

Volunteers must complete the Prayer Team training program prior to joining this team.

Reiki Practitioners Ministry

Individual trained in the art of Reiki providing healing energy to congregants of Unity of Washington, DC. Those interested in serving on the team must have at least taken a Reiki I class.

Spiritual Counseling Ministry

Spiritual Counselors work with the Senior Minister in providing spiritual support and guidance to members of the congregation – available by appointment. Those interested in becoming a Spiritual Counselor must apply to be considered as a member of this ministry. The following certifications and/or training is helpful for service on this ministry: licensed/ordained ministers; licensed professional counselors; Licensed Unity Teachers; Lay Leaders; Trained New Thought spiritual counselors/practitioners; psychiatrist/psychologists and social workers. Once a member of the ministry, the Spiritual Counselor is trained in a model of spiritual counseling taught at Unity Village.
